Joel D. Broersma, President of HBW Partners Tax Services LLC, has been in the financial planning industry since 1996. He has been licensed as an Enrolled Agent with the IRS since June 2011. He works “hands-on” in the office on a daily basis and enjoys studying the ongoing changes in the industry. He also converses with the IRS on a continuous basis. Joel and his wife, Sue, have been married since 1991 and have three children, Kellie, Heidi and Micah. Over the summer, Joel enjoys boating with his family and exploring Lake Michigan. Joel and his team look forward to working with many more clients by helping them prepare and develop tax planning strategies.
Dan Korhorn has been in the financial services industry since 1997. His expertise in sorting through complex financial details has made him an invaluable part of our team. Dan completed a comprehensive tax class through The Income Tax School® and has been preparing returns since 2013. He assists taxpayers by helping them navigate some of the more intricate facets of the tax code, preparing returns, and consulting on small business strategies. Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, and two daughters, Emma and Lilyanna, and playing as much golf as possible.
Micah Broersma joined the HBW Partners Tax Services LLC staff shortly after graduating high school at West Michigan Aviation Academy in March 2020. He is currently studying to pass his EA exam to become an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. Micah runs all the admin and organization for HBW Partners Tax Services LLC, and occasionally assists in preparing tax returns. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Annie, and their friends. He also looks forward to going to car events around all of Michigan with his 2003 Chevrolet Corvette.
Ben Ruiter joined our team in October 2016. He quickly passed the comprehensive tax course through The Income Tax School® and has been involved with preparing tax returns ever since! Ben is always striving to learn new things and finding strategies for saving our clients money. In his free time he enjoys hunting and spending time with his family. Ben and his wife, Shelby, have two children, Jolee and Kyler, and they share a love for Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. On the rare occasion that Ben is not in the office, the U.P. is where you’ll find him!
Kelly McLellan is a native of West Michigan and lives in Rockford with her husband Guy. They have two grown children, Sarah and Sean. A graduate of Rockford High School, she remains very active in her community as a member of the Rotary Club of Rockford, advisor to the RHS Interact Club and is a board member for Teen Bible Challenge.
After graduating with her AAS degree from Davenport University, Kelly spent over 30 years working in healthcare before switching careers to work in the tax and financial planning arena. In her free time she enjoys traveling, camping, music, reading, and writing.
Bryan Geurink is a graduate of Calvin College with a B.S. in Accounting. He worked in public accounting as an accountant and tax preparer for 10 years, and then the Lord called him and his family to serve as the Director of an orphanage in Lesotho, Africa. He spent 7 years there serving children in need and facilitating adoptions around the world. He returned from Africa in 2018 and has been with HBW Partners Tax Services LLC ever since. His experience in tax and accounting helped him to get his Certified Financial Planner degree upon arrival in the USA and is currently the Managing Partner for the Lakeshore office in Holland, MI. When not in the office, he enjoys spending time hunting, fishing, playing board games, and out on the boat with his family.
Anita Geurink is a graduate of Morenci High School in southern Michigan and graduated from Calvin University with a degree in Social Sciences. Anita met her husband at Calvin and were married soon after graduation. They were living in Zeeland, MI with their 3 children when the Lord called them to Lesotho, Africa for 7 years. She worked as a Co-director at Beautiful Gate Orphanage for 5 years, they adopted 2 precious children and then returned to MI in 2018. Anita is now assisting Bryan at the Lakeshore office when she is not busy at home with their 5 amazing kids.
Maleia Cook is a GVSU graduate with a degree in Business Economics. Shortly after graduating she joined our team in the summer of 2023 and works in our Holland location alongside Bryan and Anita. Maleia is quickly growing into a bookkeeping role as well as helping with all administrative duties for tax preparation.
Growing up in Zeeland and still residing there now, Maleia is a true Michigander! She enjoys spending time with all her friends & family and spends her free time painting and crafting.
Aaron Castaneda (AJ) began working at HBW Partners Tax Services LLC in 2021 and does much of his work in our in bookkeeping and tax department. He currently heads up the tax and accounting division in our new Traverse City office. He loves to work with and help small businesses, transferring some of his knowledge as a small business owner of a local window cleaning company. AJ lives in Northern Michigan with his wife Allie where they love to spend time with family and explore their hometown!
